Buckey Winkley is a self-taught artist.
Buckey has worked with oil paints and water
color very successfully yet, found his
intricately detailed pen and ink drawings to
be his favorites.
Until 1972 Buckey's favorite art medium was
Scrimshaw on Ivory, but the Marine Mammal
Bill closed the taking of Walrus. This
event redirected Buckey's art work to a
medium that has evolved into magnificent
pieces of bronze. Buckey's first
bronze was made of a grizzly bear during the
fall of 1979. Since then hunting
clients have taken his bronzes all over the
world.
Buckey's art portrays a life of an
outdoorsman, adventurer, and highly skilled
artisan. The art represents "an
investment in the past for the future".
